Surgically Correctible Hypertension

Abstract
Systemic hypertension and its associated cerebrovascular, renal and cardiovascular sequelae area among the most common causes of crippling illness and death in the world today.
Most patients with diastolic hypertension will eventually be diagnosed as having essential, hypertension. However, a small but important percentage will have a condition which can be corrected by a specific operative technique.
The more common etiologies amenable to, operation are coarctation of aorta, Cushing¢¥s synd-rome, pheochromocytoma, primary aldosteronism, renovascular hypertension and milateral renal parenchyma) disease. In view of the gratifying outcome in the lesion leading to correction, a., systematic screening of all hyperensive patients should be conducted prior to use of a nonspe-cific antihypertensive drug program.
This report deals with 1 cases of pheochromocytoma, 1 case of Cushing¢¥s syndrome, 2 cases of coarctation of aorta, and 6 cases of renal hypertension which were experienced from Jan. 1969, to May, 1977 in the Severance Hospital.
